I really want to get more shots like this. The downtown skyline with ominous clouds overhead dropping massive bolts is just incredible. Next year I plan to shoot more storms over city skylines especially in the Tampa and St Pete area 🌃⚡️
Do you wonder how I manage to capture these images? What kind of gear I use? What my settings are? How I post process? Well you should follow my page @bigboltmedia and also subscribe to our YouTube channel (Link in Big Bolt Media’s bio) where we’re going to be creating in depth videos on storm chasing and weather photography ⚡️
Sanibel After Dark 🌴💫
For my birthday last Saturday, @kingofsunsets@matt_roback @ch808_shoots and I took a photo trip to Sanibel Island. I had this idea in mind of shooting star trails over the Lighthouse but my first composition was compromised by a police officers headlights. By the time I found this killer composition and setup my camera, I only got about 20 minutes worth of exposures until clouds came through. I was only able to get 40 clean exposures for this image. How I create the trails in post processing is I first edit all the exposures in Light room and save them in a folder as jpegs. I then take the jpegs and process them in a program called Starstax to get this final product. You can watch a really good Tutorial by Tony Northrup on YouTube that goes into more detail on shooting startrails if you're really interested.

An intense sea-breeze lightning storm near downtown Sarasota. If you look closely you can see some blue jets coming out from the top of the thunderstorm. Blue Jets are upper-atmospheric lightning or ionospheric lightning are terms sometimes used by researchers to refer to a family of short-lived electrical-breakdown phenomena that occur well above the altitudes of normal lightning and storm clouds. ⚡️
